Tenders are invited for Empowering Modern Clean Cooking Solutions in Malawi In Malawi, the majority of households rely on polluting fuels, such as charcoal and firewood, for cooking. This widespread practice has led to dire consequences, including deforestation and land degradation that affect the entire country. Despite numerous efforts by various organizations over the years, the adoption of clean cooking solutions in Malawi has remained limited. The lack of access to clean cooking alternatives has severe economic and environmental implications, which cost the country billions of dollars annually, accounting for lost productivity due to public health issues and the impacts of climate change. Recognizing the urgency of the situation, the Malawian government has taken significant steps through well-defined policy measures, particularly through the Malawi Cleaner Cooking Energy Compact. Proposed by the Ministry of Energy and the National Cookstove Steering Committee in September 2021, this initiative sets ambitious clean cooking targets for 2030. To accomplish these ambitious objectives, a comprehensive and collaborative approach is essential. This approach should address both supply and demand issues within an enabling environment that attracts funding for scalable solutions.
